Using Overdrive with a Nook eReader

To borrow Overdrive library eBooks for use with your Nook eReader you will need a computer with internet access, your library card number (and PIN), an email address, Adobe Digital Editions software and the Overdrive Media Console software.

First time use

Borrow materials

  • Go to the Oscar Grady Public Library Website, and click on the link to Overdrive (which is located on the right side of the page).
  • Once on Overdrive, click  Sign in (located on the top right corner of page).  Select Eastern Shores Library System from the drop down menu and then enter your Library Card and PIN.
  • Browse or search for material you would  like to take out. Make sure the material is compatible for the Nook eReader. It must be an Adobe EPUB eBookAdobe PDF eBook or OverDrive Open EPUB format.
  • Select Add to My Cart to add the eBook to your cart to checkout. If the button says Place a Hold, this means it’s checked out to another patron and you will be placed on the waiting list. You will be notified via email when the book is available and have three days to download the title.
  • Once you have finished selecting eBooks,  go into My Cart and click  Proceed to Checkout.
  • Select a lending period of 7 or 14 days and click Confirm Checkout.
  • Click the download button, if prompted, and choose to open file with Adobe Digital Editions.

Transfer your borrowed items from the computer to your Nook eReader

  • Be sure that you are able to find and open the borrowed eBook in the Adobe Digital Editions software on the computer.
  • Plug your Nook eReader into your computer with a USB cable.
  • Open Adobe Digital Editions, then authorize the Nook device when prompted.
  • Find the  items you want to transfer in your Adobe Digital Editions library.
  • Drag and drop the item onto listed Nook device in left column of Adobe Digital Editions.
  • Eject the Nook device in windows explorer before unplugging.

Finding your library books on the Nook

Nook Color:

  • Select the My Library button on the bottom of the home screen
  • Select My Stuff located on the top right
  • Select My Files category
  • Select the Digital Editions folder
  • Select the item to read and enjoy your eBook!

Nook:

  • Select the My Library button.
  • Select the View My Documents .
  • It will refresh and the Overdrive title should appear.
  • Select the item to read and enjoy your eBook!
